What is IPL?

IPL is an abbreviation for intense pulsed light. It’s a type of light therapy used to treat broken capillaries, brown marks/age spots, and unwanted hair.

You can use IPL to minimize or remove:

-age spots
-sun damage
-freckles
-broken blood vessels/capillaries on your face/decolletage
-Improve redness due to rosacea

IPL is similar to a laser treatment. However, a laser focuses just one wavelength of light at your skin, while IPL releases light of many different wavelengths, like a photo flash.

IPL penetrates down to the second layer of your skin (dermis) without harming the top layer (epidermis), so it causes no damage to the surface layer of the skin resulting in no down-time, this is a lunch time procedure. Pigment cells in your skin absorb the light energy, which is converted into heat. The heat destroys the unwanted pigment to clear up freckles and other age spots/brown marks. Or, if using it for hair removal it targets the hair root causing it to enter into a resting period , during which any existing hair follicle falls out, and your body produces less hair in that area over time. You can use IPL anywhere on your body, but it is most commonly used on the face, neck, decolletage and back of the hands, for more even skin tone and its anti-ageing effect. . Caution has to be used in those with darker skin types.
